Cherie Maher is in her 9th year of teaching math at Smith. She teaches Math7/8 and Math 7. Mrs. Maher graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry from Wheaton College in Illinois. Her first job was testing the influenza vaccine at Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals, in Rochester, MI. As she trained colleagues in the laboratory, she realized that her true calling was teaching. She then attended Wayne State University and earned her Master's Degree in Teaching. For two years, she taught Chemistry and Physical Science at Southfield Christian School. Her first job in Troy was teaching I.B. Chemistry and Math at the International Academy. After taking time off with the births of her three boys, she returned to Troy schools; first at Larson, before transferring to Smith. When she is not at school, Mrs.Maher is likely outside attending her sons’ baseball games, soccer games, cross country meets and rowing regattas. Her personal hobbies are quilting, baking, and reading.
