Protfolion Selections
PORTFOLIO SECTIONS
Students will have six pages in their portfolios:
Math
Science
Social Studies
English
Electives
APT (Apt to Succeed)
CONTENT
Each page will house all artifacts and reflections from 6th grade through 8th grade. The artifacts that remain at the time of the 8th grade interview will be the students' best work . Each student should have at least 4 artifacts for each of the 5 categories. It is beneficial to have artifacts from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade to show growth throughout their middle school career.

Weebly Examples
Reflection
Each artifact will be accompanied by a reflection. Feel free to teach reflective writing in your classroom for your artifacts, however, here is a suggested format for all content areas.
Students could reflect on one of the four main topics (Backward-Looking, Inward-Looking, Outward-Looking, or Forward-Looking) by answering several of the questions posed in one area. OR
Students could reflect on each of the four main topics by answering one or two questions from each area. Here are some examples:
Reflections should NOT talk about how hard they worked, or that they received an A. This is an example of what not to do:
Authentic Work
In the past, our students have put in assignments like Scantron tests or other artifacts that have not showed their work or thought. The portfolio committee is not saying don't do these types of assignments, but when you do assignments in class that are more authentic, our job is to communicate with students that this assignment would work for a portfolio and provide time to reflect.
We should focus student portfolio work on quality not quantity. Keep in mind that students will be required to come up with at least 4 artifacts from each content area. A typical portfolio might have one 6th grade assignment, one 7th grade assignment, and two 8th grade assignments.
