Smith Cell Phone Use Policy

Our Smith cell phone policy for the 24-25 school year will remain the same. Our policy is meant to help provide a better experience and learning environment for our students. This included limiting distractions, improving face-to-face communication skills, and building more collaborative classrooms. Limiting cell phone usage has decreased the incidents of inappropriate cell phone behavior in the building and helps to promote better physical and mental well-being for our students.  Please take a few minutes to review our policy with your student.

CELL PHONE POLICY & VIOLATIONS

Cell phones and all other related electronic devices, including headphones, must be powered off and out of sight from the start of 1st hour until the end of the school day (including lunch and hall passing time) unless students are given permission from administration. Students are expected to use the office phone to contact home.

If a phone or other device is taken away by an adult, the following applies:

1st Violation

Phone given to office, picked up by student at the end of day.

2nd Violation

Phone given to office, picked up by parent at the end of day.

3rd Violation

Phone given to office, picked up by parent at the end of day, student issued a detention.

Additionally, we strongly encourage students to keep their AirPods and other headphones at home. These devices will be confiscated during the school day as well. If there is a particular day where headphones are needed for a class, our staff will let students know in advance.
